Tesla Model S is developed by Tesla Motors; it is a full sized sedan that runs with electric battery. This electric car was codenamed at the time of research development; the production is expected to begin in 2012.
The base price of the vehicle is expected to be around US$57,400.
Overview
Tesla is endorsing Model-S as a family car that can accommodate seven passengers in its cabin. The sedan has normal seating capacity for five adults, and is little bit based on the old station wagons.
Just like other domestic automakers, Model S from Tesla comes with quite a few features. This standard car is equipped with lithium-ion battery pack, which is good for more than 160 miles.
You can also find battery packs, which are pretty good for 300 miles. The Base Model S can achieve 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds. Top speed of the vehicle is electronically limited to 130 mph.
Model S from Tesla can be charged using 220V, 110V, or 440V outlet. It takes as less as 45 minutes for complete charging. Chassis, energy storage system, motor and body are exclusive for Tesla Motors.
History
On Feb 1st, Tesla Motors planned to introduce the Model S range-extended version, which includes gasoline engine, but later the gasoline engines were removed. On Sep 18th 2008, Tesla has officially announced that there will be electrical cars and no more hybrids further.
The prototype model of Tesla Model S was revealed on March 26, 2009 in California. On May 20th 2010, Tesla motors declared that they will collaborate with Toyota to manufacture a lower-priced Model S.
Price
Pricing of the base-level model has been announced and it will be in the range of US$58K. Intermediate model is priced at US$67,400. High-end “Signature Series” is priced in the range of US$77,400. The company also announced good capacity battery packs that offers more affordable 3rd vehicle with code name as BlueStar“.
Performance
The performance of the vehicle is pretty decent. It can achieve a speed of 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds. Drag coefficient of the vehicle is around 0.2.
